Seventh Grade 2009-2010

April 2010 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

The seventh graders have been working hard. During Lent, the students studied the Stations of the Cross.  An art project they participated in during Lent was making crosses out of egg cartons.  They have a new student, Mariah Barnhill, and they were very exited about her arrival.   They recently finished with their reading and math assessments.  The students did very well. When their homeroom teacher, Ms. Divelbiss, broke her hip, Mrs. Haverkamp was their homeroom teacher. Mr. Stueve was their substitute math teacher. In language arts, they have been reading a novel called, The Root Cellar. They finished writing biographies of one of their family members. In science, they are doing research on a famous scientist of their choice. The students in Science Olympiad recently went to state in Wichita. It was a great time for them. The students in band went to O.T.L. band and played five songs with many other  schools.  They started a new chapter in social studies.   Eight of the seventh graders are out for track.   Practice wasn’t too bad after the first week was over.   They are excited to participate in the OTL track meet.      By   Bailey Hundley   2010 April Trojan Tribune

The seventh graders are doing very well in their classes.

In religion, they are listing ways why Jesus is important in our lives. They also have listed many facts about Jesus’ life, like Mary is his mother, etc.  For social studies, they have been studying the Civil War and how Kansas took part in it.  In science, the seventh graders have been learning about the biomes and what is included in them. Some of the biomes are grassland and tundra. They have also just finished a report over the biome they were assigned. In reading, they are reading the novel Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry.  They seem to be enjoying this book. English is the class where they have been writing persuasive paragraphs and working on Shirley English pages.   The seventh graders are learning how to solve and simplify fractions.   All of the seventh graders look forward to reading their parts at the Christmas concert.   They also can’t wait for Christmas break to get here so they can all get out of school.  They also just recently received their I.T.B.S. scores and everyone seemed to do very well.   Have a nice year seventh graders!

Science Olympiad

The seventh and eighth graders are working hard in Science Olympiad. Science Olympiad is when our school competes against other schools in science. There are quite a few new events that they are learning this year, like the Junkyard Challenge, Battery Buggy, Can’t Judge a Powder, and many more.  Science Olympiad is January 13, 2009. We have a really great teacher, and that person is Mrs. Haverkamp. We have quite a few people out for Science Olympiad. The people who are in it are in the following: Alex Rottinghaus, Melissa Nordhus, Blake Schmitz, Luke Runnebaum, Lisa Olberding, Lily Clark, Michaela Stallbaumer, Hannah Dodd, Colin Lierz, Logan Haverkamp, Michelle Kohake, Moriah Rottinghaus, Shaylyn Stallbaumer, Madison Koch, Janie Bramhall. The alternates are Abe Elder, Moriah Rottinghaus, and Bailey Hundley.

October 15, 2009 . . . . . . .   7th  Grade

Taken from the October Trojan Tribune Newsletter:

The seventh graders are working on many things. In religion, they have been taking some tests over the “Come Holy Spirit” prayer and the seven sacraments. In social studies, they are studying about the different forts in Kansas. They are also doing an activity about different immigrants for Immigrant Day, which is September 3.

Everyone from 7th grade brought food, music, or other items from different countries for this day.  For science, they are learning about Newton’s three laws of motion, and energy. In literature, they are learning about six trait writing, and they are also reading a novel called Children of The River.

For Math, they are learning new equations and playing math games on computers.   The most interesting thing that has happened in seventh grade is that they dissected a diaper.                By     Colin  Lierz
