Kindergarten 2009-2010

April 2010 . . . . . . . . . . . .

The kindergarteners are busy learning and working in their classroom. To prepare for Easter, they talked about spy Wednesday and how Jesus gave up his life for us. They made Easter cookies with the 7th graders and hunted Easter eggs that were left by the Easter bunny. The Kindergarteners shared what they did over Easter break. Some went to their grandparents’ house and colored and hunted Easter eggs.  They also went to the Easter mass. They’ve also been busy doing art projects from bunnies to sheep and lions for the month of March.  They made palms and crosses for Lent.

December Trojan Tribune Newsletter . . . . . . . .

The kindergarteners are learning about Advent and the first Christmas. They enjoyed St. Nicholas visiting the classroom and leaving goodies in their shoes. The kids are on their 4th book in reading. They’ve learned half of the alphabet and its sounds.  They can blend many letters together to read words. The students know all of the color words and many sight words. In social studies, they learned about the Pilgrims, Indians, and the First Thanksgiving.  The class had a Thanksgiving feast made by the parents, and the students dressed up as Pilgrims and Indians.   In math, the kids can count pennies and dimes and tell time to the hour.   They know how to count by 1’s, 5’s, and 10’s.   They’re starting to add numbers and  practicing recognizing numbers to 100.  The kindergarteners are very happy to be in school learning new things!      Written by Melissa Nordhus

Taken from the October Trojan Tribune Newsletter:

The kindergarten class this year is in the new school building. They really like their new classroom. They are really excited about all the space in their room and the fact that they get their own bathroom in their classroom.

They are taking classes for religion, reading, math, phonics, social studies, science, music and P.E. The kindergarteners have learned the letters A, G, H, C, O, and P. For learning the letter P, the kindergarteners made pancakes at school.   They are graphing and reading a lot of A. R. books.  Their favorite part of kindergarten is recess, computers, and P. E., but most of all they like homework.        By Lilly  Clark
